Reflections on an inspiring week at CAW Sydney

CAW Sydney a week of learning

A week of learning at CAW Sydney

Last week, Our CEO Tracey joined our team in Sydney to participate in Climate Action Week (CAW). Thought leaders, businesses, policymakers, and sustainability advocates came together to discuss some of the most pressing challenges and opportunities facing the world today. From insightful panels on corporate climate responsibility to deep dives into emerging regulatory frameworks, the week was filled with valuable discussions about how businesses can step up their efforts in decarbonization, circular economy practices, and transparent sustainability reporting, to name a few.

Key takeaways from a week of learning

One of the biggest takeaways from the week was the growing momentum behind climate action in Sydney, which sets out to be the sustainability hub of the globe. Businesses are no longer just responding to regulatory pressure—they are proactively seeking ways to integrate sustainability into their core strategy. The conversations we had reaffirmed that sustainability is not just a compliance issue but a competitive advantage that drives innovation, resilience, and long-term value, and businesses across Sydney and beyond certainly feel motivated to make real change.

Another key theme that emerged was the importance of collaboration and knowledge-sharing. Climate challenges are too complex to solve in silos, and CAW Sydney provided an incredible platform to exchange ideas, learn from global best practices, and explore new ways to work together towards a better future.

Bringing European insights to the Australian market

A major highlight for us was hosting our own keynote at Telstra on Thursday, where we shared insights from our European clients on the evolving landscape of Mandated Reporting. With reporting requirements tightening globally—particularly under the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD) in Europe—we explored how Australian businesses can prepare for similar regulatory shifts.

Key discussions centred around:

  • The importance of using accurate, regionalized databases as this can cause up to 60% variance in results. A lot of solutions on the market aren’t using an Australian database, let alone one that has regional accuracy
  • Lessons from European companies navigating CSRD and other frameworks
  • The role of technology in streamlining sustainability reporting
  • How businesses can move beyond compliance to create strategic value

We were blown away by how many key players signed up to our event, be it in person or on livestream. The level of engagement from attendees was fantastic, and it was great to collaborate with those Australian businesses that are keen to get ahead of the curve, rather than play catch-up.

A week of connection and momentum

Beyond the keynotes and panel discussions, networking played a huge role in our CAW Sydney experience. We had the chance to connect with so many inspiring industry leaders, sustainability professionals, and like-minded organizations, who are equally passionate about accelerating climate action.

Friday, in particular, was a day of important follow-up meetings, solidifying the relationships built throughout the week. It was clear that many of the conversations sparked at CAW Sydney will continue well beyond the event, leading to new collaborations, innovative solutions, and tangible progress in the sustainability space.

Looking ahead

As we reflect on an inspiring and impactful week, one thing is certain: the transition to a sustainable future requires bold action, informed decision-making, and collective effort. Events like CAW Sydney remind us that while challenges remain, the will to address them is stronger than ever.

We’re excited to take these learnings forward, deepen our collaborations, and continue supporting businesses on their sustainability journey. Thank you to everyone who engaged with us throughout the week—we can’t wait to keep the momentum going!
